"Clara Pouvreau is an outstanding cellist whose creativity, technical skill, and versatility have established her as one of the most remarkable French cellists of her generation. Described by critics as a "musician of great depth and technical prowess," Clara performs on both modern and historical instruments, allowing her to bring an exceptional range of expression to her performances."

A prizewinner in several prestigious international competitions, Clara was awarded top honors at the Johann-Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig (2012) and received a Special Prize at the Pablo Casals International Cello Competition in Budapest (2014), affirming her place as a rising star in the classical music world.

 

At the age of 16, she was accepted at the prestigious Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique de Paris and completed harmony and Counterpoint studies with distinction.

She studied modern cello with Christoph Henkel at the Musikhochschule Freiburg and with Laszlo Fenyö at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe as well as baroque cello with Kristin von der Goltz at the Musikhochschule Frankfurt.

Clara is a sought-after guest soloist, regularly performing with renowned ensembles such as the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre National de Cannes, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona among others.

 

Her performances brought her to Europe’s most esteemed concert halls, including the Vienna Konzerthaus, Philharmonie Köln, or the Palau de la Música in Barcelona.

In addition to her solo career, Clara is the co-founder of the UnderStories baroque ensemble, which won the Most Promising Ensemble prize at the York Early Music Competition 2022. The  ensemble’s first CD, A French Odyssey, will be released in the spring of 2025 on the Challenge Classics label.
